How to Setup Microsoft Exchange POP3 in Outlook (Mac OS)

POP3 stands for Post Office Protocol version 3, which is a protocol used to access email locally on a server and retrieve email data. You can set it up easily on your Android or iOS device, and now you can do it on your Mac computer, too! Here’s how:

  1. From Spotlight search, open the Outlook app.

  2. Go to Tools, then select Accounts.

  3. Click on the + sign, and click on New Account.

  4. Select Manual setup (or additional server types), and hit Next.

  5. When selecting email types, click on POP.

  6. You will need to fill up the following information for your POP3 mail setup:
    • Account Type: POP3
    • Incoming server: (confirm with your email provider)
    • Outgoing server: (confirm with your email provider)
    • Incoming mail server name: POP3
    • Username: (your email username or account name)
    • Password: (your email password)

  7. To proceed, click on More settings.

  8. Select Outgoing Server, then check My outgoing server (SMTP) requires authentication.

  9. Go back to Outgoing Server, then hit Advanced.

  10. Enter the following details, which you may also need to confirm with your email provider:
    • POP3: (995 or as specified by email provider)
    • Outgoing SMTP Port: (465 or as specified by email provider)
    • Root folder path: enter “INBOX”

  11. And that’s it! Just hit Next, then Finish, and your POP3 email setup is now complete.
